The Two Point Six Challenge

Whether you’re running around the balcony for 2.6 miles, baking 26 cupcakes in 26 minutes or completing 26 burpees in a row. Whatever you do, your support will help us continue to provide care, special education and support services for young people, adults and families across the North West.

Bridge College in Manchester extends its Supported Internship Programme

The Together Trust’s Bridge College has extended its Supported Internship Programme and opened applications for places for the next intake in the autumn. The programme is open to 16 to 24 year olds with an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) who are interested in getting into employment.

Bridge College in Manchester shortlisted for a national award

The Together Trust’s Bridge College in Manchester has been shortlisted for a national award, in recognition for its work in supporting students with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD).

Natspec, the awarding body, shortlisted Bridge College from more than 50 entries from across the county in the ‘Inter-disciplinary Working’ category for the college’s project ‘Innovation in supporting students with PMLD: Achieving integration of learning and therapy through Physiotherapy and Sensory Sport.’

Staff members at Inscape House School have been working to support students and their families over the Easter period, by putting together and delivering much needed food parcels.

Gareth Daynes, Deputy for Pastoral Care and Support at Inscape, said: “Like everyone else in the country many of our students and their families are self-isolating at the moment.

Together Trust occupational therapist steps up to tackle eating disorder in vulnerable children

Rachel Peek is an occupational therapist at the Together Trust and though she’s only been in post for a little over a year she’s already made her mark in her field, having recently had an article published in Occupational Therapy News magazine about the eating disorder Pica.

Pica is characterised by a tendency to eat substances that provide no nutritive value such as soil, chalk, hair or paper.

“As a medical condition it’s been diagnosed in pregnant women, in those with and iron deficiency and in patients who have a mental health condition” Rachel explained.

Stockport family run business William Turner raises £8,967.41 for the Together Trust

Daniel Turner, Managing Director of Stockport business William Turner, came to our Cheadle site recently to present us with a cheque for £8,967.41 raised by the company and its employees during its one year charity partnership with the Together Trust.   

The family run business, now in its third generation, has been supplying high quality handmade school and corporate wear through independent retailers for more than fifty years. The company’s products, including school accessories such as bags, are manufactured locally in its own factories in Nelson and Skipton.

2020 - 150 years of the Together Trust

In 2020 the Together Trust is celebrating 150 years of continuous service to children and families in the North West of England.

We’ve come a long way since 1870, when Leonard Shaw and Richard Taylor founded a ‘Night Refuge for Homeless boys’ on Quay Street in Manchester.  In the 150 years that followed we added new homes, opened our doors to girls as well as boys, went through names changes, added new services for our communities and opened schools, training and emigration schemes and a fostering service.

In the footsteps of our founders...

This month, exactly 150 years ago, our founders Leonard Shaw and Richard Taylor opened a ‘Night Refuge for Homeless Boys’ at 16 Quay Street in the centre of Manchester. This three-storey Georgian terrace house, long since demolished, marks the start of our story, the story of the Together Trust.

We were treated to a moving speech at today's AGM from Inscape student, Ethan, where he talked about how much of a difference the Together Trust and staff at Inscape have made to his life. Around 40 people were at the event, including staff, trustees, governors and Salford ceremonial mayor and Stockport ceremonial mayors and mayoress.

A call for the government to put children at the heart of their spending

We are joining 140+ organisations in a call to all political parties to put children and young people at the heart of this general election.

There are almost 14 million children in the UK but their voices are missing from the national conversation and far too little attention has been paid to their needs, particularly those of the most vulnerable. Instead, the debate on Brexit means the issues affecting children are being crowded out of the national debate.
