The Mayor of Trafford Visits Bridge College in Manchester

Bridge College, a specialist further education college in Openshaw in Manchester, welcomed the Mayor of Trafford, Councillor Rob Chilton, for a visit this week.

The visit was hosted by the Principal Lisa Duncalf and the Mayor was given a tour of the college, which meets the needs of students up to the age of 25 years with learning difficulties and disabilities, complex health needs, communication disorders and autism.

Gone but not forgotten – North West charity the Together Trust uses social media to remember the fallen of WW1

How we're working with Brunel to create diverse workplaces

We want to see a society where people thrive because they are valued within their communities. But for many of the people we support entering the world of work can be a real barrier to achieving those ambitions.

With only 16% of adults who have autism in full-time employment, there is a clear need for businesses to recognise the value of a diverse workplace. To help challenge this we’ve partnered with Brunel International because they recognise that UK employers aren’t creating enough opportunities for people who have autism.

Fundamental change needs to happen

Yesterday the committee for housing, communities and local government published its report on the funding of local authorities children's social care. We were pleased to see the cross-party recommendations and acknowledgement that there must be more investment in children’s services. 

The report reflects the harsh reality that local authorities face delivering children’s social care today. We support the report recommendations, which includes the investment of up to £3.1 billion into children's social care along with systematic change.
