New generation of students graduates from Gusto work experience programme

25 April 2024

We're thrilled to announce that our amazing Inscape House School and Ashcroft School students have officially graduated from their work experience programme at Gusto Italian.

After 8 weeks of learning the ins and outs of working in a premium restaurant, they were finally able to test their knowledge on a practical day. They helped guests find their table, took orders, brought food, cleared tables, made drinks and more.

One of the students tells us “I really enjoyed the last few weeks here. We have done all sorts – we've been in the kitchen, learned about serving and more. Today has been less stressful that I thought it would be.“

Being able to access work experience programmes has a huge impact on our students and is an invaluable resource for our schools.

Damon, the parent of one of our students says “Oliver has been glowing every time he speaks about coming to Gusto. It has done wonders for his confidence. He’s always been a bit shy, but having the opportunity to come here, meet new people, try new roles – it's really helped him.”

During the programme they have been under the expert guidance of Mikey, Training Manager at Gusto. Mikey is dyslexic and understands the importance of tackling the barriers autistic people face in the workplace. He shares that it is valuable for him to prove to the students from Inscape House School what they are all capable of with the right support.

“It’s fantastic to see their progress from week one to now. They’ve all developed so much and you can see how much their confidence grew in this time.” - Mikey, Training Manager at Gusto

Inscape House School’s collaboration with the restaurant chain Gusto strives to give the autistic students a chance to prove themselves in the workplace but also motivate employers to foster a more inclusive environment and tackle preconceived notions and unconscious biases about autism while transforming thousands of autistic people's lives.
