Our GM Rail Accessibility campaign is award-winning

We’re thrilled to share that the GM Rail Accessibility campaign proudly took home the Inspiring Campaign Award at the Spirit of Manchester Awards 2025!
It was a fantastic night celebrating the passion and power of Manchester’s voluntary and community sector. We were also delighted to meet Cllr. Grace Baynham of Woodsmoor – a station that’s received initial funding for accessibility design, but still needs more to bring those plans to life.
The campaign was shortlisted by the Spirit of Manchester panel and was voted the winner by in-person and online audience members on the night. You can watch the vote-winning video below:
Well-deserved recognition for Nathaniel
A big thank you to campaigner Nathaniel Yates, whose tireless work for accessible train stations across Greater Manchester continues to inspire us. This is a powerful reminder of what we can achieve together.
We’ve proudly stood with Nathaniel since 2022 who has been campaigning for step-free access across stations in Greater Manchester for seven years.
“I just wanted to thank everyone that supported me and voted me for on the night, which was amazing. Thank you for your support. It was a shock for me that I won but this means I have to work even harder now to achieve my aims, and I will be doing that.
I’d just like to thank everyone again who voted for me. It was an absolute pleasure and a brilliant night.”

About the campaign
We believe accessible travel is essential for disabled people to live full and independent lives.
That is why we are campaigning to make train stations across the UK more accessible, starting with Ashburys station in Openshaw, Manchester.
We support Nathaniel’s campaign and work towards influencing change at Ashburys Station and across Greater Manchester. We’re striving for public transport to become accessible so everybody can benefit from it, whether commuting to school, work or using it for leisure.
