Scaling new heights: Norvent staff conquer Three Peaks for a cause

Six dedicated staff members from Norvent, a full-time residential home under the Together Trust charity for children with emotional and behavioural difficulties, recently took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge to raise funds for a holiday for the young person in their care.
The team embarked on the rigorous 24-mile trek, which involves an ascent of 1,585 meters (5,200 feet) over three peaks: Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough.
“We had four months to prepare, but as usual, life got in the way,” shared one staff member. “The morning of the challenge, we were up at 5:30 a.m. to meet our mountain leaders for the safety briefing, and that’s when it hit us—this was getting serious!”
The challenge began with the ascent of Pen-y-Ghent, the first of the three peaks, standing at 694 meters, followed by Whernside at 736 meters. As the team tackled each ascent, their morale grew stronger:
“We worked together and supported each other to reach the summits. The views were breathtaking, especially when we could see Pen-y-Ghent in the distance, it was incredible to reflect on how far we had come,” one staff member said.
However, the toughest test awaited them on the final ascent to Ingleborough (723m), which needed to be completed within a three-hour time limit. Though fatigue set in, the team’s spirit shone through as they supported one another amid the physical demands of the climb.
With the toughest part behind them, the descent back to Horton-in-Ribblesdale was filled with laughter and a sense of achievement. “We were in good spirits, and some even managed a little jog down to the green where we had parked,” one staff member shared.
The team completed the challenge in an impressive 11 hours and 54 minutes, raising £1,800 for their cause. The exact details of the holiday for the young person in their care are yet to be confirmed, but the staff expressed pride in their accomplishment.
"It was an amazing day; we laughed, cried, and pushed ourselves to our limits. We all agree it was one of the hardest challenges, but it was absolutely worth it.”
