Students welcome adorable sheep and lambs on campus

a collage of two images: a boy and a girl petting and feeding lambs
16 April 2025

Ewe wouldn't believe who came to visit our campus: the baa-rilliant sheep and lambs from Ewenique!

Students had the opportunity to enjoy a warm day outside learning more about animal behaviour, sitting with the sheep and petting our friendly visitors.

The star of the show were definitely the two little best friends: Milo and Fizz the lambs. Born just weeks apart, the two lambs bonded really well and soon became inseparable.

“It has been so lovely to see so many people and put smiles on everyone's faces in the beautfiul sunshine! Even Milo was so confident at saying hello to everyone and made sure he gave everyone a kiss”
shares Shannon Hazlehurst, the owner of Ewenique

Milo, the black-and-white lamb, is pure Valais blacknose who was born on 13th February, but despite his young age he is a perfect playmate for young people. He was adopted by Ewenique after his mum rejected him, which means he is being raised with a bottle. This was a perfect opportunity for our Animal Care students to practice feeding the lamb with bottles, an important learning experience for their qualification.

A student bottle feeding the lamb.

A small lamb, with white wool all over except for its face, ears, bottom of its feet and knees where the wool is black. This creates a visual effect like the sheep is wearing boots.

The impact of AAI

Our young people often report that the animals help them feel calmer and more relaxed.  They like to spend time together with the animals, as it helps regulate their emotions and return them to baseline.

At Inscape House School we run Animal Assisted Intervention (AAI) sessions. AAI is a therapeutic approach that leverages the interaction with animals to support mental, physical, social, and emotional development. The type of animal used in therapy varies based on the child's needs, and can include horses, dogs, guinea pigs, rabbits, and reptiles.

Other students come to their session and express their emotions to Danielle and the animals. Together they work on building strategies to overcome their worries. Spending time with the animals makes them feel both happier in the moment, and prepares them for the rest of their day at school.

If you’re interested in sponsoring our therapy animals, we run a sponsorship scheme. We'll keep you in the loop with updates on what your chosen support animal is up to, as well as the impact Animal Assisted Intervention has on students.
