Bridge College students experience the joy of reading like never before

19 November 2024

Bridge College proudly unveils its spectacular new reading haven, a perfect retreat for students to unwind with a great book.

As the days grow shorter and colder, the Bridge Café has been transformed into a cosy library space. Now, students can savour steaming hot chocolate and delicious snacks while diving into an incredible selection of fiction and non-fiction treasures.

To mark this exciting occasion, students participated in a creative challenge to design the library's new sign. Among many creative entries, Millie M's design stood out and will proudly adorn the library door. Congratulations, Millie!

John Cannon, Principal and Sara Bayley, Executive Headteacher, had the joyous responsibility of officially announcing the library as “Open!” and they were met with a raucous round of applause from staff and students alike.

John Cannon, Principal said,

“We eagerly anticipate our students embracing this new space and cultivating a lifelong passion for reading.”

There are many benefits of Reading for Young People, here are just a few…

Cognitive Development

  • Vocabulary Expansion: Reading introduces young people to new words and phrases, enhancing their vocabulary and language skills.
  • Improved Concentration: Engaging with stories requires focus, helping young people develop better attention spans.

Emotional and Social Benefits

  • Empathy Development: By exploring diverse characters and situations, young people learn to understand and empathise with others' feelings and perspectives.

  • Stronger Emotional Connections: Shared reading experiences can strengthen bonds between young people and caregivers, fostering emotional security.

These benefits collectively contribute to the holistic development of young people and we encourage the sharing of books at home as well at college.

Adam, Assistant principal confirmed,

“We are accepting book donations to keep our library exciting and inspiring. If you have any books you’d like to donate please contact: admin@bridgecollege.ac.uk we appreciate it!”
