Haines House throws successful fundraiser in celebration of its 5th birthday

The Together Trust's only care home in Salford – Haines House, which provides full-time residential placements to young people with autism and learning disabilities - recently marked its 5th anniversary in style.

Parents, carers and staff across the Together Trust were invited to the celebration, which took place alongside a cake sale. The event was part of Haines House's fundraising initiative, aiming to raise funds to purchase and install a pendulum swing in the home's garden.

Apart from indulging in a cosy atmosphere and engaging conversations, the attendees could enjoy a variety of cakes, savouries and treats, some of which were crafted by the Haines House staff.

"It was great to see so many people attend the 5-year anniversary event at Haines House,” shares Kevin C., Registered Manager at Haines House. “We are so lucky to have such a good staff team and three wonderful young people to support. The service has grown and developed over the five years we have been open.”

“Still, our most satisfying and significant achievement is that we have three young people who regard Haines House as their home. We can't do any better than that.”

In addition to the cake sale, the guests could try their luck at a bottle tombola, football cards and even purchase one of the young people's artworks. They were made up of a collection of photos that he found on Google of strange things he liked, such as black wheels on cars, coloured doors, caterpillar balloons and others.

"It lessened his anxiety if he took photos of things and made collages of these photos together in a specific order that he liked,” shares Drew Speakman, Senior Residential Social Care Worker.

“I had to get really good at editing and graphic design on Word. Some were pictures that he had on his wall, and then he ripped them and wanted them back together and laminated them, then cut them out, then laminated them again. So they are multi-media art pieces and make some interesting images. I'm sure he'll be displayed in New York one day!”

Thanks to the generosity of staff and friends, Haines House successfully raised £235.65 on the day. The next part of the team's fundraising project is to complete the National Three Peaks Challenge between March and September this year. Their first mountain will be Snowdon in Wales on Saturday, 23 March, and their goal is to raise £4,000 to acquire a pendulum swing for the children to enjoy in the home's garden.
