Nutrition and Hydration Week, 14 - 18 June

21 June 2021

Students helped to design activities for the week and led on how to involve their fellow students. They also decided that there would be a theme for each day.

Menu Monday:

Students were asked what their wish list menu would look like for either a meal or a day. A piece of fruit, a bottle of water and/or healthy breakfast were supplied to all staff and students.

Taste Test Tuesday:

A selection of smoothies/snacks/drinks was provided, and students tried to guess the ingredients. Students also participated in a taste quiz.

Water Wednesday:

Students were encouraged to drink their allocated drinks as a minimum and gain a ‘hydration point’ for drinking water throughout the day.  Each hydration point was displayed to evidence how much water we drank as a college. Students also took part in a ‘water bottle’ poster scavenger hunt to find all the healthy drink bottles.

Think Healthy Thursday:

Students were invited to afternoon tea at Bridge café with fruit kebabs, banana bread, carrot cake, flavoured water, herbal teas. They could also take part in ‘Healthy Food Bingo’.

Fruit Friday:

Fruit drinks and fruit bags were given as an option during the morning break for students and staff. There was a ‘Nutrition and Hydration week’ Hamper prize draw. All students who participated received a college certificate of achievement.

Helen H., Tutor, says:

“Not only did the week raise awareness and help develop an understanding of the message, but it also brought the college together in a way that celebrated the spirit of 'Team Bridge'. Whilst in the cafe I asked the students to prepare fruit platters and pureed tasters for anyone in the college.  This was an opportunity to embed PHSE to help promote understanding about how everyone is different, but we can all enjoy the same experiences.  The PMLD group loved the afternoon tea and opportunity to meet with friends from other groups and be part of the wider college programme and this was great to observe."
