Inscape House School student: North West's pride in the Pupil Library Assistant of the Year Awards

29 January 2025

Congratulations to Inscape House School student Faye Hanaghan on being a finalist in the Pupil Library Assistant of the Year Awards. 18-year-old Faye is one of eight finalists in the annual award’s secondary school category, which has been celebrating outstanding pupil librarians across the UK for 12 years.

Faye and other finalists were nominated by their school librarians for exceptional contributions in five key areas, including being role models.

Jenna-May Griffiths, Librarian at Inscape House School, shares:

"Faye’s enthusiasm for our school library is infectious. Her passion and drive radiate throughout the school, motivating her peers and inspiring the school community as a whole; her impact is significant. Faye works relentlessly with our library team to drive our vision for the library and uphold the values of our school, showing unwavering commitment."

"Faye is always kind and helpful, consistently going out of her way to help other students. An influential role model! Faye so deserves to have achieved this accolade. It is wonderful to see her diligence and enthusiasm recognised by both the School Libraries Association and the School Libraries Group (CILIP); such vitally important organisations. Congratulations Faye!"

Judged by a panel from the children's book world and school library community, the awards celebrate the positive impact of student librarians from a variety of schools, including state, independent, co-ed, boys', girls', and special schools for children with autism, with Faye proudly representing the North West.

"I was ecstatic to be chosen for this role. School libraries are essential for young people. Our school library was once a small room, limiting our enjoyment of books. I campaigned for a larger space and helped relocate our stock. The new library revitalised our service, offering new opportunities. Joining the book club has helped me form friendships and explore new genres. Working in the library has improved my social and organisational skills. I hosted events, including greeting parent guests and the Queen Camilla's Deputy Lieutenant. All schools need libraries to help students reach their full potential," shares Faye Hanaghan.

Faye is heading to London on 25 March for a special award ceremony with other finalists, where she'll meet many authors. We wish her the best of luck in the first place, but we are already so proud of her achievement as a finalist!
