On Saturday afternoon, 3 February, around 270 people, including 65 children, experienced Prokofiev's timeless tale of 'Peter and the Wolf' at St Andrew's Church in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport, from the Amaretti Chamber Orchestra.

Narrated by local award-winning CHADS actor Richard Sails, with various instruments in the orchestra depicting the different characters in the story, the concert was organised in support of the Together Trust.

“It was a very different concert for us because it was our first afternoon concert. We were keen to encourage children and their families to attend, and we're delighted that so many came along to enjoy the children's classic 'Peter and the Wolf'."

"We chose the Together Trust because we wanted to support a local charity that looks after children and their families,” shares Brigid Hemingway, Founder and Leader of the Amaretti Chamber Orchestra.

The fundraising concert, supported by local businesses Daisies Floral Design and Speedy Print, and sponsored by Dr Downing Music, raised a total of £1600 to support children, young people and adults with disabilities, autism and special health needs across the North West.

"We usually don't get any children in the audience, sometimes two or three. However, we had 65 children in the audience on Saturday, including babies! The church was full, including the balcony, so it was great to play to a packed house," says Brigid Hemingway.

A spectator shares: "I very much enjoyed the concert, especially the 3pm start. I noticed that all the babies were alert and in tune with the music, they were having a wonderful time. Good work."

The programme also included Beethoven's violin concerto with virtuoso soloist Nathan Fenwick, performed in the second half.

The Amaretti Chamber Orchestra previously supported the Together Trust in 2011 and has raised over £53,000 for local charities since 2004.

About the Amaretti Chamber Orchestra

The Amaretti Chamber Orchestra was formed in 2004 by Leader, Brigid Hemingway and Former Principal Bass, Peter Aggett. It comprises a group of friends who enjoy playing music to a high standard whilst raising money for local charities. The orchestra gives three charity concerts a year at St Andrew's Church in Cheadle Hulme. The next concert on 25 May is in support of the British Heart Foundation.
