The beginning of the academic year always brings with it the sweet aroma of home baking, as our schools and colleges take part in the Macmillan Coffee Morning with a fundraising bake sale!
Every year in September Macmillan Cancer Support encourages people to host a coffee morning to raise funds for their services and open the discussion around cancer support.
Inscape House School
Our team at Inscape House School, our educational setting for autistic young people, has been inspired by the recent start of the new season of the Great British Bake Off, to turn their coffee morning into a friendly competition. Parents, carers staff and students were encouraged to bring bakes and enter them in the competition.
The winners each received a decorated wooden spoon in recognition of their success in the following categories:
- Best Looking
- Best Sponge
- Tastes the Best
- Smells the Best
- Best Cookie
The Inscape team raised an incredible £146.40, which is the most they’ve ever raised for Macmillan Cancer Support through this fundraiser.
Team Inscape says “A huge thank you to everyone who supported the event, whether by baking, buying, donating, or simply coming along for a brew and a chat.”

Bridge College
The team at Bridge College, our specialist higher education setting for disabled and autistic young people, held their coffee morning at Bridge Cafe and sported cakes brought by students and staff.
Bridge Cafe is partly run and staffed by our amazing students so they played a big role on the day, serving cakes and taking money.
Staff say “They were that incredible that most have already been sold and eaten before a single photo could be taken!”
And the results show that. Team Bridge have fundraised a wonderful £257.54 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Huge congratulations to both teams for their amazing effort!
