Patrick, Service Producer at ITV Manchester, paid a visit to our autistic students at Inscape House School and Inscape Vocational College as part of our Careers and Employability curriculum.
He brought all of his experience in TV, from being a camera operator to now developing beloved programs watched by thousands of people, all the way to our school. He is also a mentor and part of the Royal Television Society Futures Board, a programme encouraging people to get into TV careers, hosting online training talks and other educational events.
To get students engaged, Patrick gamified his Careers talk by including interactive elements like a game of bingo, a guessing game, thinking exercises, and more.
Finley, one of our post-16 students who has already completed a work experience programme with the Together Trust’s Communications team, says: “I enjoyed the talk. I’d like to work in TV in the future”.
To learn more about careers, students picked TV jobs at random from a list, and they discussed with Patrick about what each of them entail.
Patrick says: “The students have been brilliant today, I really enjoyed it. These events are great for us too because we hear so many creative ideas. Students come at it from an entirely new angle. We enjoy seeing what comes out of this left brain thinking.”
Later on, students had to come up with their own unique comedy show ideas. And who knows, maybe we will see some of their shows on telly soon!
