So proud of our student Harry from Inscape House School for receiving a Highly Commended Award in the category of Writer of the Year – Fiction for his story “The Red Haired Rookie” at the prestigious Shine School Media Awards!

This is a remarkable achievement, made even more special by the fact that Inscape House School were the only SEN (Special Educational Needs) school nominated for an award this year!

The Shine School Media Awards is a national competition rewarding UK secondary schools who produce an outstanding newspaper, magazine or podcast.

Harry is one of the core members of our school-run magazine, Inscapism. He is an editor and writer for the magazine and his biggest project has been writing “The Red Haired Rookie” a serial story for which he published new instalments in each edition of the magazine.

In the Shine Awards Winners Book, the story was described as: “This has a lot of drama and action, some great dialogue and we want to read on to find out whether Bobby and Ruby will find their dad – and will the rest of the band get in? We had a real sense of the writer enjoying the act of writing – and that transmitted itself to the reader. Look forward to Chapter 8.”

The Inscapism team travelled down to London to the historic Stationers’ Company for the occasion. Harry was joined by friend and fellow magazine colleague Finley, and teachers Marie Young (Head of Careers) and Judit Tolnai (Associate Teacher, and coordinator of the work students do on the magazine).

Marie Young, Head of Careers says “It was a privilege to be part of such an inspiring occasion.”

Throughout the day, pupils took part in a range of creative workshops, including cartoon illustration and bookbinding, gaining hands-on experience from industry professionals. The event concluded with a beautifully presented silver-service dinner.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Judit Tolnai, Media Teacher, whose dedication, expertise, and passion empower our pupils to produce Inscapism and our school podcast. Her commitment to nurturing creativity, organisation, and confidence in our learners is truly invaluable.

“We are immensely proud of his achievement and of all our pupils who continue to shine through their creativity and hard work.” – Marie Young, Head of Careers

Finally, a huge congratulations to Harry for his exceptional work on “The Red Haired Rookie”.
