A young person from our Crosskeys residential service recently enjoyed the trip of a lifetime, travelling abroad for the very first time on an unforgettable visit to Germany.
Ian Wilson, Manager at Crosskeys, accompanied the young person on the exciting adventure at the start of August, helping make a long-held dream become a reality.
Crosskeys, based in Stockport, is one of our residential services providing intensive therapeutic support to young people with recognised attachment difficulties and complex needs. For this young person, the trip was much more than a holiday. It was an opportunity to gain new experiences, build confidence and create lasting memories.
Having lived at Crosskeys for almost six years, he had always dreamed of flying on a plane and travelling overseas. As a huge Formula 1 fan, with Max Verstappen as his favourite driver, there was only one destination in mind: Germany.
The young person chose to visit Stuttgart, home to the world-famous Mercedes-Benz and Porsche museums. During the trip, he explored both attractions, spending time admiring the impressive collections of classic and modern vehicles while learning about the history and evolution of automotive engineering.

The visit also gave him the chance to put his German language skills into practice. Whether ordering food, shopping for souvenirs or chatting with people during the trip, he confidently used some of the language he had been learning. He also embraced the opportunity to sample traditional German cuisine, with a German kebab quickly becoming his favourite meal of the trip.
From taking his first flight to exploring a new country and immersing himself in a culture he loves, the experience was packed with memorable moments and personal achievements.
We are delighted that he was able to enjoy this incredible opportunity, and we’re proud to have helped make one of his dreams come true. The memories made in Germany will undoubtedly stay with him for years to come.
