Salford Hub, our specialist day service in Salford, recently marked Black History Month with a celebration led by Senior Community Support Worker, Sameya, at our Cheadle office.

Colleagues from across the Together Trust were invited to attend the Black History Month event and help start a month of recognising and celebrating Black history, culture and contributions. It was great to see so many colleagues taking part, learning and getting involved in the activities.

The people we support at Salford Hub played an important role in the celebrations. They designed and created artwork and crafts that are now displayed across Together Trust’s central office for colleagues and visitors to enjoy. Their creativity and hard work helped raise awareness and encourage conversations about culture, heritage and inclusion across the organisation.

For those who could not attend the event in Cheadle, Salford Hub also hosted a celebration at the service. Colleagues brought in traditional dishes from their cultures, creating a delicious buffet for everyone to enjoy.

The people we support were involved throughout the day. They helped plan, prepare and make food, while developing cooking, communication and teamwork skills. We are also grateful to the colleagues who volunteered their time to support the event.

Both events brought together people from across Together Trust services to share food, learn from one another and celebrate different cultures. People enjoyed trying traditional Jamaican and Nigerian dishes and learning more about the ingredients, cooking methods and cultural significance behind them.

“We’re proud to have helped promote inclusion, understanding and cultural awareness. It also gave people opportunities to learn new skills, share experiences and build stronger connections across our communities. It was a positive and meaningful way to celebrate diversity together.”
