Rafe’s first ever run smashes fundraising targets

Rafe set out an impressive goal of running his first ever 5k course and fundraising £50 – but little did he know at the time that he would achieve 680% of his target!

When his parents and his uncle Simon decided to run a 5km fun run together, Rafe thought it would be a great idea to join them and set himself a target of £50 to fundraise, going towards his school – Inscape House School, our specialist school breaking down barriers to education for autistic young people.

He set up a JustGiving page and wrote an appeal saying “This is my first 5km run, and I would like to raise some money for my fantastic school, Inscape House School. This run will also go to my DoE qualification. Thank You from DJ Rafemeister!”.

Then training started. Rafe’s dad Matt is already a runner and keen to get Rafe running too. He completed four practice runs ahead of the big day. To celebrate their joint achievement once they got their medals, Rafe was raised up in the air by his dad Matt and uncle Simon (photographed above).

About the race day, Rafe’s parents say “He loved it, it was a little noisy and busy but he managed to get through it. He was really proud of himself when he completed it.”

After doing his own campaigning by sending his JustGiving page to family and friends, Rafe ended up raising a spectacular £340 from 27 kind donors, going towards his school, achieving 680% of his original target.

Rafe is currently working on his Bronze Duke of Edinburgh (DoE) Award, and running a 5km works perfectly with his goals.

Rafe is a big fan of school.

His parents  say “Since starting he has grown hugely in confidence. This year he’s gone on two overnight stays – Calvert Lakes residential and his DoE camping trip. It’s been great for his self-esteem.”

Huge congratulations and a big thank you to Rafe and his family for this amazing effort!
