The upcoming general election is scheduled for 4 July, 2024.
We want everyone to know about their right to vote, and ensure they have the right information about how to vote in the next general election.
We are supporting My Vote My Voice campaign, which wants to make voting accessible for everyone.
Around 1.5 million people in the UK have a learning disability, and there are over 700,000 autistic people. But research in 2019 found that less than two-thirds of the general public know that they have an equal right to vote.
My Vote My Voice’s mission is to encourage people with learning disabilities and autistic people to vote in the 2024 General Election.
You have a legal right to vote if you are:
- Aged 18 or over on polling day
- A British citizen
- A qualifying Commonwealth citizen
- A Republic of Ireland citizen with a UK address
A step-by-step guide to voting
1) You have to register here to vote by midnight, Tuesday 18 June 2024
2) Choose how you want to vote:
- In person: You can vote at the polling in your local area on Thursday 4 July between 7 am – 10 pm.If you vote in person you will need identification (ID).The types of ID accepted include passport and driving licence.See the full list of accepted types of ID here.
- By post: You have to register here to vote by post.Apply for a postal vote by Wednesday 19 June before 5 pm.
- By proxy (someone else can vote for you): Apply for a proxy vote by Wednesday 26 June before 5 pm.You have to register here to vote by proxy.
