Michael, a young man supported by the team at one of our supported living services in Bolton, did a fantastic job taking part in this year’s Blackrod Scarecrow Festival on 27 and 28 June, helping to create a fantastic Postman Pat display that became a firm favourite with visitors.
The Blackrod Scarecrow Festival is an annual community event in Blackrod, Greater Manchester, which features hundreds of creative scarecrows displayed across the village, along with trail maps, games, and charity raffles.
With colourful Union Jack bunting, balloons and windmills decorating the garden, Michael and the team did a fabulous job creating something special for the local community.
Michael played a key role in making Postman Pat’s papier-mâché head, painting his face, and helping to paint Pat’s famous red van. The whole team worked together to source materials, from finding Pat’s outfit in a charity shop and gathering boxes for construction to adding wool for his hair and even tracking down Jess the black and white cat.
“The team came together with help from Michael’s family, it looked brilliant,” says Vanessa, Specialist Community Support Worker at the Together Trust.
We had so many people from Blackrod and the surrounding areas come to look at our Postman Pat display and take lots of selfies – many people said it was one of their favourites! The weekend was a great success.”
A huge well done to Michael and everyone involved!
