Bridge College recently hosted an action-packed MATP event at the Manchester Velodrome, where students from various schools and colleges showcased their energy, enthusiasm, and incredible achievements.

What is MATP?

“The Special Olympics Motor Activity Training Programme (MATP) is a unique programme specifically designed for athletes of all ages with complex support needs”

Explains Keira, a coach from MATP. Kiera has won 6 Gold medals for Cycling at the 2015 and 2019 Special Olympics World Games and is now a coach and MATP ambassador.

Keira came along to the event to be the spokesperson from MATP and to inspire our students to do their best.

The event was an ideal opportunity to celebrate students’ abilities, and to showcase their individual motor skills and sporting achievements in ways that matter to them.

Throughout the day, students had the chance to try a variety of activities, including balancing, goal scoring, bowling, and much more. There was a fantastic atmosphere as each student proudly demonstrated their skills alongside peers from other schools and colleges.

It was inspiring to see everyone give it their all, support one another, and enjoy the experience. The raucous rounds of applause after each event were great to hear. We are incredibly proud of every participant for embracing the challenge and trying their very best.

Keira presented each student received a certificate and medal to celebrate their achievements, a well deserved reward for such an amazing effort.

Chloe, Bridge College sports coach, shared:

Organising this event was incredibly rewarding. It was amazing to see everyone enjoying themselves and taking part in such an inclusive environment where every student had the opportunity to shine, build confidence, and celebrate their achievements together. I’d also like to thank all the staff for their fantastic teamwork and support in helping make the day such a success.”
