Bridge College Teams Up with Venture Arts

We’re thrilled to share some exciting news from Bridge College this term. Our students have been diving into the world of animation thanks to a fantastic collaboration with Venture Arts.

Venture Arts has been visiting the college each week, working closely with our students in the Skill4Life group to bring a creative animation project to life. We caught up with tutor Megan McKinlay to get the inside story…

Building Creative Skills
Over the course of the project, students explored a wide range of artistic techniques, each step building towards their final animations.

“We started with collage,” Megan explains, “using different animal images to create completely new and imaginative creatures.”

From there, things got hands-on and messy!

“We moved on to working with clay, experimenting with textures and shapes. It was messy, but so much fun, and the students really got stuck in.”

The final stage saw students bring everything together using plasticine. Each student developed their own storyline and characters before using animation techniques to make their ideas come alive.

“They took photos frame by frame, moving their models slightly each time. When the images were put together, their stories really came to life on screen,” Megan adds

Standout Moments
Beyond the technical skills, the project offered something even more valuable: confidence, collaboration and connection.

“It was amazing to see students learning from new people and picking up skills so quickly,” says Megan. “Working with the Venture Arts team made such a difference.”

And, of course, there were some memorable moments along the way…

“A definite highlight for all of us was Nabeel’s huge burp! Which even made it into the final video!”

The project has certainly sparked creativity and maybe even future careers.

“A huge shoutout has to go to Kylie,” Megan says. “She created all the credits for the project and showed incredible talent. She’s a brilliant animator and creator.”

This partnership with Venture Arts has been an inspiring journey for everyone involved. From first ideas to final animations, students have developed new skills, expressed their creativity, and had a lot of fun along the way.

We can’t wait to see what they create next!
