The Together Trust was proud to attend the Stockport Race and Culture Awards 2026 last Friday, not only as guests but as one of the main headline sponsors of the event. The evening celebrated individuals, projects, and organisations making a real impact on race equality across Stockport and the surrounding communities.
Held in the stunning Stockport Town Hall, with the Mayor and local MPs in attendance, the awards recognised the dedication of those driving meaningful change on the ground. Sameya, Co-chair of the Race Equality Network at our charity, reflected on the evening: “Hearing about this work created a strong sense of pride and perspective and reinforced the importance of publicly honouring the people driving change.”
The event was a vibrant celebration of culture and community. Guests enjoyed music from South Asian and African traditions, a moving singalong of “Lean On Me” accompanied by a locally rooted prayer referencing the River Mersey, and spoken word from Manchester poet Griot Gabrielle, whose poems on Manchester and Congo captivated the audience. Bhangra drummers and dancers brought energy to the room, while Afro-Caribbean food and a cultural gift table added warmth and a sense of shared experience.

As a headline sponsor, the Together Trust helped make the evening possible, supporting the platform that recognises meaningful work and amplifies underrepresented voices. Sameya highlighted the impact of such events:
“It creates space to recognise meaningful work, amplify underrepresented voices, and build belonging through shared cultural moments – experiences that policies alone cannot achieve. Events like this show that race equality is about belonging, visibility, and shared responsibility. When people feel seen and valued, it creates stronger communities and a stronger organisation.”
The Together Trust left the Stockport Race and Culture Awards inspired and committed to continuing its work in celebrating diversity, promoting race equality, and building inclusive communities for all.
