Earlier this autumn, staff members from one of our services, Meridian, took on a fantastic adventure to raise money for the garden of the short break home, where we support autistic children and young people.

Laura Bennett, Senior Residential Social Care Worker at the service, and two of her colleagues chose to do a tandem skydive at 15,000 feet, with 60 seconds of freefall – the highest in the UK, at the Black Knights Sky Diving Centre in Cockerham. Laura shared…

“When the local parks or other recreational activities are not able to meet the needs of the young people, the garden provides a safe space to explore, learn, and most of all have fun.

The garden is used all year round, and we want to provide shelter and activities for the young people who like to be out rain or shine. The garden is a very large space, and we want to be able to use it in different ways throughout the year for the young people and for all of them to get the most out of it.”

We all had an amazing time and really enjoyed the experience. It was fabulous and the staff were excellent. We have many fundraising events throughout the year and aim to raise enough money to replace the soft flooring and to provide equipment such as an easily accessible ground-level trampoline and a wooden gazebo.”

The team managed to raise £1,839 for the home’s garden with a target of £5,000. Well done to our fundraising heroes at Meridian!
