We’re incredibly proud to celebrate a young person from Crosskeys who has recently been awarded Scout of the Year, an achievement that reflects both his hard work and the remarkable progress he has made over the past few years.

Crosskeys is one of our residential services in Stockport, a small therapeutic home that provides intensive support for young people with recognised attachment difficulties and complex needs.

When he joined Crosskeys in November 2022, colleagues were keen to help him build confidence, develop new skills and become involved in his local community. Soon after his arrival, he was encouraged to join a local Cub Scout group. At the time, he found new situations challenging and required constant support from colleagues while attending sessions.

Like many young people adjusting to new routines and experiences, there were challenges along the way. However, with consistent encouragement from colleagues and his own determination to succeed, he gradually became more comfortable and confident. Over time, he no longer needed support to attend and progressed up to Scouts.

Today, he attends Scouts independently every Friday evening, travelling there on his own and actively participating in all activities. He has taken part in numerous weekend camps and has become a valued and respected member of the group.

The transformation has been particularly evident during scouting trips. In the early days he relied on Crosskeys colleagues to remain with him throughout. Now, he confidently takes part in overnight and weekend activities without support, demonstrating just how far he has come.

Receiving the Scout of the Year award is a testament to his resilience and commitment. Everyone at Crosskeys is delighted to see him thriving.

We couldn’t be prouder of everything he has achieved and look forward to seeing what he accomplishes next.
