The government has launched a new consultation on proposed changes to Personal Independence Payment (PIP), inviting feedback from disabled people, parent carers and those who support them.
PIP is a vital benefit that helps people with the extra costs of living with a disability or long-term health condition. Any changes to how it is assessed or delivered could have a significant impact on people’s daily lives, independence and financial security.
What is the consultation about?
The consultation, known as the Timms Review, is seeking evidence on how PIP is currently working and what needs to change.
The government is asking for feedback on:
- People’s experiences of applying for and receiving PIP
- The assessment process and whether it is fair and accessible
- Whether PIP reflects the real costs of disability
- How the system could better support disabled people
The consultation is an important opportunity for people to share their experiences and influence how the system works in the future.
Our work so far
At Together Trust, we recently fed into the Pathways to Work consultation, where we heard directly from disabled people and families about the barriers they face. You can read more about our response here. Our feedback related to the changes to PIP in this current consultation period has been shared directly with the North West Disability Unit Regional Stakeholder Network. The Chair of the Regional Stakeholder Network will be sharing feedback from across the region directly with the Minister, ensuring that lived experiences from our communities are heard by decision makers.
Why this matters
PIP plays a crucial role in enabling disabled people to live independently. Any changes must be shaped by the people who rely on it. Your experiences can help create a system that is fairer, more accessible and better reflects the realities of living with a disability.
How to take part
Individuals, parent carers and disabled people can submit their views directly to the consultation here.
Deadline: Thursday 28th May 2026
