A Lerryn adventure: First caravan trip by the sea

A young resident from Lerryn, one of our children’s homes supporting young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties, recently experienced his very first caravan holiday – this time to Talacre Beach in Holywell. The three-day trip, planned together with him, allowed him to choose both the destination and the support worker to accompany him, making it a truly personalised adventure.

The caravan site was bustling yet peaceful, offering a wide variety of activities – from the amusement arcade and swimming to local parks and tasty food spots. Despite some unpredictable weather, he embraced the caravan lifestyle so wholeheartedly that he didn’t want the trip to end.

Highlights of the trip included enjoying funfair rides and taking long walks along the beach, exploring Conwy Castle and discovering what life was like in past centuries, savouring traditional fish and chips by the sea, and visiting the smallest house in Rhyl to experience what life is like in such a tiny space.

Pat, Senior Residential Social Care Worker at Lerryn, shared her thoughts on the trip: “It was wonderful to see him grow in confidence. He enjoyed socialising with other young people he hadn’t met before and experienced how different caravan life is compared to home, especially living in such a small space. He was particularly fascinated by learning about life in the past, especially at the castle and how people defended their surroundings. The weather wasn’t great, with plenty of rain, but that didn’t bother him at all. Being away from home isn’t daunting as long as he’s with someone familiar, and he handled the whole trip exceptionally well.”

We’re thrilled for our young adventurer and grateful to Pat for making this experience possible – a trip full of fresh air, new experiences, and memories that will last a lifetime!
