The award-winning poet and lyricist Terry Caffrey visited one of our specialist provisions, Inscape House School, on Thursday, 19 January, to read from his entertaining book of poems, “It Wasn’t Me Miss”, and gave students a glimpse into the world of an author, hoping to inspire them with their reading and writing.
Apart from giving our learners tips on how to be a creative writer, the young enthusiasts had the opportunity to participate in engaging poetry and writing workshops. The students were challenged to come up with their kenning poems linked to their curriculum and English classes.

Commenting on the day, Terry shared that he likes to help teachers build up new, engaging ways to spark the children’s interest in reading and writing and that the most inspiring people he has met in his life are namely young boys and girls such as our talented students at Inscape House School.
Students who attended the workshops also received a certificate for participation.
About Terry Caffrey
Terry Caffrey is a talented performance poet who has worked in over 4,500 schools, libraries, prisons and festivals throughout the UK and overseas.
Terry is a poet in residence at the National Football Museum, Bridgewater Hall in Manchester and has been at the National Coal Mining Museum in Wakefield and Citadel Theatre in St Helens. He was commissioned to write by the Roald Dahl Foundation and had the lyrics to one of his songs chosen to be one of the official children’s songs for the 2012 Olympics.
