Two outstanding students from Inscape House School triumphed at this year\u2019s Portico Art of the Book Award, <\/strong>showcasing their talent.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Erin Duffin, a lower school student, claimed the Gold Award for her stunning illustrations in the Best Artwork category. Meanwhile, Amelia-Rose Darbyshire, a middle school student, secured first place for the ‘Funniest Story’ with her clever playscript.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was truly an incredible experience! I loved receiving my certificate and choosing a book. The presenters were so friendly, and the woman distributing the books was really kind. Overall, it was an amazing event!\u201d says Amelia-Rose.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

“The Portico Library\u2019s work with neurodivergent children is vitally important. After being recognised in the Art of the Book Awards, our ten-year-old daughter is now talking about future studies and a career in illustration. This project has allowed her to believe that anything is possible.”<\/p>\n– Ceri Aston and Malcolm Duffin, Erin’s parents<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Judge Oliver East, an illustrator and graphic designer, praised Erin’s ‘Boris the Chimpanzee’s Story’. He noted the professional quality, lively characters, and excellent use of textures in the illustrations. Amelia-Rose’s playscript ‘Future Boy’ also received positive feedback for its performance, engaging villains, excellent reading, humour, strong dialogue, and dramatic music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Art of the Book Award has played such an important part in encouraging our students to showcase their creative abilities over the years. This year, our students were inspired by the fabulous workshop delivered by Jack Nicholls to support them with their work for the award,\u201d shares Jenna-May Griffiths, Librarian at Inscape House School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Art of the Book Award was held at the Central Library in Manchester earlier this month, and it is part of The Portico Sadie Massey Awards, celebrating the outstanding achievements of young readers and writers aged 7 to 18. The competition welcomes entries from pupil referral units as well as schools and departments that support students with special educational needs in Greater Manchester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe event was a very special occasion that celebrated students for their achievements in front of their peers, staff, and parents. I was deeply moved by Judge Oliver’s speech; it was truly inspirational, and he serves as a fantastic role model for everyone.
