Sometimes movies are up-front about characters that are autistic. Other times it&#8217;s more subtle, and people call those characters &#8216;autistic-coded&#8217;.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I believe autism isn&#8217;t represented in the media enough, and when it is, it&#8217;s either amazing or awful.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sia&#8217;s film &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/e0IVWsxOGOI?si=9HRxFBtIqCGMiRcP\">Music<\/a>&#8221; is just Rain Man again in terms of autistic representation, in that both films use harmful ableist stereotypes played by neurotypical actors.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, there are shows like &#8220;Love on the Spectrum&#8221; on Netflix and Disney Pixar&#8217;s &#8220;Loop&#8221; that celebrates the spectrum rather than insulting it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Find out more about Pixar&#8217;s short &#8216;Loop&#8217;:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed-handler wp-block-embed-embed-handler wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Pixar&#039;s &#039;Loop&#039; gives an autistic lead character a powerful voice\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JrO639lX8Uc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I believe autistic people need someone to look up to, such as other autistic people. I also believe that ableism towards autistic people needs to be lowered, so those who are neurotypical need to see what autistic people can do.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I think that filmmakers need to talk to real autists to learn in-depth about what it really means to be autistic.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;d like to see autists on TV who aren&#8217;t treated awfully and are treated the same way as everyone else in the world.
