There are six steps in your fostering journey with the Together Trust.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>

Step 1.
Initial Contact<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

It all begins by getting in touch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Download our free fostering guide here<\/a> or fill in our enquiry form<\/a>. Our enquiries officer will have an informal discussion with you to answer all your questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 2.
Home visit<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

If you’re happy to move forward with your fostering journey, we’ll make arrangements to visit you in your own home to discuss fostering in detail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You’ll also have the opportunity to speak directly with one of our foster carers who can talk you through their experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 3.
Introductory training<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The assessment process begins with our \u2018Skills to Foster\u2019 training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This usually takes place over two days and helps you gain a clear understanding of fostering before you decide to move forward. It covers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • What foster care involves<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Identity and life chances<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Safer caring<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Working with others<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Understanding and caring for children and young people<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Transitions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    You’ll also have the opportunity to speak directly with one of our foster carers who can talk you through their experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Step 4.
    Assessment process<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

    If you and the Together Trust feel fostering is right for you, we’ll start the assessment and undertake statutory checks and personal references.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    A qualified social worker will undertake an assessment report with you at your home. They’ll meet with your personal referees, members of your household and any grown up children you have living away from home. As part of our safer recruitment, we will also undertake background checks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Assessment may sound daunting but remember we are here to help you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Step 5.
    Fostering panel and agency decision maker<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

    Once the assessment is complete, it will go to a fostering panel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The panel comprises people with a wide range of professional expertise and personal experience. They are responsible for making a recommendation as to whether you are suitable to be a foster carer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    You are approved!<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

    Welcome to the Together Trust fostering family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    We are delighted to have you join us in making a real difference to the lives of children and young people – a journey you are not alone in, as you’ll have access to support 24-hours-a-day, our monthly support group, and other tailored support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
