As part of the Government consultation, ‘Shaping the Future of Children’s Rights’, representatives from three of the Together Trust’s Social Care Forums for Young People and a host of looked after children have met with Ofsted’s Children’s Rights Director, Roger Morgan, to discuss their experiences of living away from home and how they are cared for.

Dr Morgan invited the Together Trust’s young service users to submit their views on what changes they would like to see made in the care system. The feedback will be considered by the officials advising the Minister of State for Children and Families, MP Sarah Teather, later in the year.

He commented: “It was great to meet so many young people and fostering families from the Together Trust and to hear their thoughts about children’s rights. Speaking to them first hand to find out about their views is essential, and I’ve come away from the meeting with a lot of information to feed into the Government’s thinking.”

Marie Merrington, Chair of ‘Your View’, a fostering forum group represented at the meeting, said: “Young people need as many opportunities as possible to have their voices heard, so it was great for us all to meet Roger. Our opinions and experiences will hopefully make a real difference in how we and other young people are cared for in the future.”
