Independent and supported living for 16+

The service works with young people, aged 16 years or over who have left school and are in the process of moving on to independent living.

Archer Street’s philosophy is to support young people to make a successful transition into adulthood and independent living. Support is provided at a pace and level which is appropriate to need and aspirations.

According to the individual needs of each young person the aim is to:

  • Provide a period of continuity of care, support and guidance within all aspects of semi-independent living
  • To assist and promote the key aspects and skills required to enable a young person to adapt to change
  • Prepare young people for the transition into adulthood
  • Support further education/employment opportunities
  • Promoting positive health, wellbeing and lifestyle choices.

The service assists young people to gain the skills and knowledge to live a full and independent life within the community. This is achieved by having the resources in place to assist and further develop a good understanding of the complexities involved in self care, introducing them to the basic principles of independent living and through a structured plan to identify the person’s strengths and needs for the future.

Throughout their stay the young people have exclusive use of a fully furnished self contained flat with its own private access. This is further complemented with the assignment of dedicated project/support workers to enable the young adults to explore all significant areas of independent living and personal development.

The dedicated staff team is fully trained, and has the required skills, knowledge and experience to assist the young people in preparing for the future.
