Volunteers needed to inspire a generation!

sports activities

The Together Trust is looking for volunteers to help support programmes at a number of its services in and around Stockport and Manchester. We are appealing to anyone who can spare a few hours to help out – whether they’re naturally athletic or simply inspired by the summer of sport!

Newbridge in Stockport is looking for volunteers to help support a wide range of activities from Monday to Friday, such as a walking group, indoor sports and swimming, all designed for adults with learning difficulties, complex disabilities and extra support needs.

There is also an opportunity to help encourage children and young people to try out new sports, such as trampolining, at Inscape House School our school for young people with autism in Cheadle.

In Oldham we’re looking for people to help us at New Visions who run a cycling session every Friday from 9am to 1pm. These fun mornings are designed to engage adults with a range of learning difficulties, complex disabilities and autism conditions, and provide them with a chance to improve their fitness.

For people in and around the North East of Manchester, there is also the opportunity to help encourage students with complex needs to try out new sports, including trampolining, at Bridge College’s brand new state of the art facility in Openshaw.

Sue Lewis, volunteer coordinator at the Together Trust, said; “You don’t need to be sporty or even have any previous experience of volunteering to get involved with sports at the Together Trust – all we’re asking is that you’ve got lots of enthusiasm and are keen to get stuck in and support our service users. The sessions are run by our specialist members of staff in Stockport and Cheadle, and all volunteers get full training from the outset.”

Debbie Newell, who is a volunteer at the Together Trust said, “Volunteering is a lot of fun, and you get plenty of advice from the fantastic members of staff. It’s really rewarding to spend time with the service users and it’s great to know that by dedicating a bit of your spare time you can really make a positive difference to their lives.”
