Coronation Street star, Sue Nicholls, joined pupils from CYCES in Cheadle, Cheshire, to plant a tree as part of Keep Britain Tidy and BTCV’s Big Tree Plant recently.
The Big Tree Plant is a national campaign to plant a million trees by 2014. CYCES, operated by the Together Trust, is one of a number of schools involved in the campaign that aims to create a greener feel to built up areas.
Eileen Sheerin, Deputy Head of CYCES explains, "This year CYCES has been working on becoming an ECO friendly school and we are very pleased that we have reached our silver award. As part of this we have been recycling our waste, planting vegetables, making the gardens a haven for wildlife and composting! We are busy working towards further awards. The ECO schools website has given us lots of ideas about how to make bird feeders, planting the right plants for wild life to thrive, and one of the campaigns was to plant a tree."
"We applied for one of the 1000 trees from the ECO Schools Big Tree campaign organisers and happily we were successful. In honour of our success we invited Sue Nicholls to help the pupils to plant the tree. Sue gave up some of her very valuable time from her busy schedule to do this. All the staff and pupils at CYCES are very grateful to her and the ECO schools Big Tree campaign for their support."
