The Together Trust doesn't have fixed ideas about what makes a good foster carer other than looking for people who are warm and caring, with an open attitude and the time and patience to look after children and young people.

Single people can foster and we actively encourage them to apply. Equally we welcome applications from same sex couples and cohabiting couples, as well as married ones. We welcome enquiries from people of differing races, cultures and religions. It does not matter if you do not own your own home or if you are on benefits. The post approval training we provide may give you the opportunity to work in another part of the Together Trust or in another area of social work working with children, particularly if you achieve an NVQ - with which we will support you.

Whilst we welcome enquiries from all sections of the public, we do have a few things we ask you to think about before you can make an application.

  • You must be over 21 years of age. The Together Trust has no upper age limit
  • All applicants will be required to go through an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check. Any offences that are disclosed will be taken into consideration. However, certain very serious offences automatically mean that we cannot accept an application
  • We would ask that you have a spare bedroom for a child or related children big enough for the young person to walk around freely and contain a wardrobe, a single bed, desk and a chair. We would expect the room to be ready for the child's arrival.

"Prospective carers describe the preparation training as an enjoyable and worthwhile experience."
