Practical Futures is a new Vocational Skills Centre (VSC) catering for students who need a recognised and externally accredited qualification in one of a variety of practical skills. The centre is being developed next to the Manchester College campus in Openshaw and with their support and advice.
Fully qualified and newly appointed tradesman with many years of experience will deliver the courses. Practical Futures will also draw on the full experience CYCES and the Together Trust, who deal with a varied range of challenges such as SEBD, ASD, SLD, and MLD and for those whom college placements have been very difficult.
Places are available to mainstream or special schools and PRUs for young people on a sessional part-time basis or as a short block of intensive skill building.
Practical Futures will be offering the Foundation Certificate in Building Craft Occupations (FCBCO) Level 1 recognised by CITB and accredited by City and Guilds and by the Open College North West (OCNW). There are also unit awards and entry-level qualifications.
