Dan McSherry, a Project Leader for the Together Trust, has been honoured with the Frontline Leaders Award at the annual Great North West Care Awards, which were held at the Blackpool Tower in October. Supported by the Department of Health, the Great British Care Awards are an annual series of regional honours celebrating excellence in social care, and paying tribute to those who work in the sector across the UK.

The judges, a panel of sector experts, commended Dan for his outstanding commitment and dedication as a Project Leader, and in particular, for the work he has done for James, a young service user with complex needs in a 24 hour supported tenancy service. By employing a person-centred approach to understanding James and his requirements, Dan has helped him to transform his life by giving him regular access to his local community, and encouraging him to take part in a wide range of activities.

As a result of his achievement and for being recognised as an inspirational team leader, Dan has been invited to attend the national finals in London, which will take place in early 2012.

Commenting on his win, Dan said: “It is such an honour to be presented with a prize at the North West Care Awards. Everyone who was nominated has made an incredible difference to their local communities, helping to shape the care services available to some of the most vulnerable people. I’m really looking forward to having the opportunity to represent the Together Trust at the national final.”

Jill Sheldrake, Director of Social Care Services at the Together Trust said: “We are extremely proud of all that Dan and his team have achieved in improving the lives of young adults in supported tenancies. This latest award is a testament to quality and value for money we are able to offer service users and their families.”

Lisa Carr, Director of the Great British Care Awards, commented: “The North West awards are the perfect showcase of the very best in social care practice. They pay tribute to the dedicated staff who work relentlessly to improve people’s quality of life and help them live as independently as possible. The level of care available in the North West is truly outstanding, and all of the nominees are winners in their own right.”
