We hold case files of every individual who has been in our care since about 1886. We also have sparse details of admissions of every child in our homes from 1870. The Together Trust is committed to openness and tries to provide information to descendants of deceased children who were in our homes when possible.
Any records and data that the Together Trust holds are managed in accordance with the Data Protection Act (1998). This Act requires us to only provide information to the individual about whom the record was written. We therefore require written consent to disclose information from the individual themselves or their nearest relative if the individual is deceased. Proof of death is required in this instance, if the individual was born less than a hundred years ago, as well as proof of relationship.
To undertake research regarding an individual the Together Trust needs as much information as possible in order to identify the person within the thousands of children who were in our care. This includes full name, date of birth, parent’s names and dates of time in care if known. We endeavour to answer enquiries as quickly as possible but as our archive is not held on site there may be some delay to this.
We do not charge for the service but donations, however small, are always greatly appreciated. Every penny goes towards the ongoing work of the charity.
